Cryptographic tools can be used to secure elections. Simple cryptographic tools can allow a voter to verify that his vote was correctly recorded and that the result of all recorded votes was correctly calculated.
These techniques can be used to support existing in-place voting procedures, or to secure voting machines or online elections, because attacks are typically easier with these.
Because the secrecy of the vote must be maintained in the long term in order to prevent vote buying, it is important for the security of an election that the cryptographic components used today cannot be broken in the future (see also PQ security). However, this requirement is often neglected in existing procedures.
In the winter term 2022/23, we offer two PSE projects in which teams are asked to implement an online voting system whose verifiability is based on Electionguard.
